Testing Services
Caleb Brett
ITS Caleb Brett's new laboratory facility located in Deer Park, Texas contains 12,800 square feet of laboratory. ITS provides testing, certification, and inspections of products for their petroleum and petrochemical customer base.
MGC, Inc. worked closely with ITS as an integral member of the design team. MGC, Inc. provided pre-construction services including complete laboratory layout drawings, development of casework design and specifications, and budgeting. This up-front partnering effort eliminated the coordination problems associated with typical bid projects.
The laboratory utilized Fisher Hamilton "Tradition" floor mount steel casework and MAX/LAB adaptable system components. The tilting shelves with front and back lips are ideal for reference materials and keyboards. ITS utilizes these shelves for paperwork associated with sample preparations.
In many locations, Fisher Hamilton SafeAire Fume Hoods were ganged together to one exhaust fan. With the lowest static pressure measurements in the industry and properly designed systems, we were able to use fewer and smaller exhaust fans. The overall effect is a reduction in upfront construction costs and a long-term savings in energy costs.

Texas Children's Hospital
West Tower Expansion
Already the largest pediatric hospital in the United States and located in the world renowned Texas Medical Center, Texas Children's Hospital has recently expanded its existing West Tower facility by 15 floors. This unique 484,000 square foot addition was added on top of the existing five-story building.
MGC, Inc. was a major part of that expansion by supplying and installing the casework and solid surface used in all areas of the hospital. MGC, Inc. worked with FKP Architects to create their vision of an elegant, yet playful atmosphere using colorful plastic laminate "swoosh" cabinets. With their 3mm PVC edging, moisture-resistant particleboard and thermo fused melamine interiors, the swoosh cabinets were designed to create a long-lasting durable product. These unique wardrobe cabinets will also house each room's television and VCR. To add to the kid-friendly "curvy" design of the hospital, MGC supplied tops made of plastic laminate with solid surface bull nose edging at all patient rooms and "banjo" shaped solid surface tops at all labs. Curved wall laminate installed in each patient room provides a surface for children to write and draw.

MGC, Inc. is also supplying and installing the plastic laminate casework and steel cabinetry to be used for the new Texas Children's Clinic. The clinic will also house the Texas Children's Cancer Center, which will include 25 areas for outpatient chemotherapy treatment. When complete, the more than 780,000-square foot building will feature larger waiting areas for families, and more spacious activity areas for patients.

Rice University Old Chemistry
Keck Hall
Old Chemistry has been a Rice landmark since its construction in 1925 when it was hailed as one of America's finest, best-equipped buildings for chemistry study in America. The building and laboratories were in great need of updating and FKP Architects was chosen to preserve and enhance the building while providing world-class research laboratories and teaching space. The entire building was gutted for renovation and the exterior brick and stone were restored. MGC removed all of the original wood doors from the project, restored and restained the veneer. These doors were reused on this project to help maintain the charm and beauty of the original building. Rice also reused some of the remaining refurbished doors at another campus building.
MGC consulted with the Rice and FKP design team throughout pre-construction process. Our services included developing custom products for this project such as overhead service carriers and custom color steel panels to match flooring patterns. In addition, we coordinated with other trades to eliminate potential problems, provided budgets, and developed specifications and technical data on the lab equipment such as environmental rooms and sterilizers.
